the beginning of the brAVERY run

The brAVERY run was created in honor of Avery Lynn Canahuati. Avery's story was shared with me through a good friend, Brooke, that went to school with Avery's mom. Brooke and I would ask each other if there was a new blog post by "Avery" and wondered what her next adventure would be. Soon after hearing Avery had lost her battle with SMA Brooke and I decided that we could continue to share Avery's story by hosting a 5k. 
Brooke and I took on the project in May of 2012, and on what would have been Avery's 6 month birthday we had the most important pieces in place; we had approval from the city, a course, a timing company, and a date! From that point on we scrambled to put all the other pieces together and came up with the idea of creating a virtual run so that all of Avery's biggest fans could participate, even if they couldn't make it to Texas! 

By the grace of God, come August we had a huge turnout, plenty of volunteers, and people from 25 different states supporting our event!
